Oh, baby!

Oh my goodness... I just realized I haven't blogged at all in almost 2 months! I am such a slacker lately.. or maybe it has something to do with the fact that I have practically lived motionless on my couch for the last 7 weeks. Either way.. it is time to share our great news here on our blog.
3 out of 3 home pregnancy tests, a blood test at the doctors office, and a blitz attack of morning sickness all seem to agree, the first of many baby Jenks' is on the way!

This has been the best news ever!

For those of you who don't know, I have been told since I was 15 that there was a great chance that I would never be able to have children. I even had a doctor ask me when I was 16 if it was really that important to me to have children, because having a hysterectomy would be the best option for my body, especially since I probably couldn't have kids anyway.

After Jarom and I got married, we decided that since everyday the risk of me not being able to ever get prenant grew, we started talking a lot about our feelings over it and what we shold do. We both agreed that it would be a lot harder to choose to prevent it and then find out when we were 'ready' that we waited too long and it wasn't an option any more than it would be to have a child after barely a year of marriage. We prayed about our decision and felt it was the best thing to do for our family, so we stopped using any form of birth control.

After 7 months birth control free, I started to have a lot of problems again. My monthly visitor didn't come for months and I was not pregnant. The doctor kept telling me that maybe my body had just slowed down a little. So I waited, and then in July I was told that there was a good chance I could not have children, because I had stopped ovulating completely. They decided to try giving me shots to promote my body to do what its supposed to, and nothing happened. I went back to the doctor again, and she ran a lot of tests. I received a call within a week telling me that there was a 97% chance that I would never be able to get prenant on my own, and about a 75% chance that if I did get pregnant, my body would just kill the baby before it got a chance to become anything. She offered to try Chlomid (a fertility drug) to see if that might at least make me ovulate again. We knew that it carried the risk that I could get pregnant, but the odds were so far against us already we knew it couldn't hurt to try.

I took the Chlomid at the end of September. When my period didn't show up (it had only been coming for the previous 2 months) I assumed I was just back to being broken, or just slow again. After a few weeks of nothing, we did what we had been doing every month it didn't show up for the last year, we took a pregnancy test. I sat it on the counter and walked away. After about 5 minutes I went back and there was a + sign for the first time!

I had never seen this before, so I made Jarom come look. The + sign was more faint than the control line and we weren't sure what to think. So I called my practically sister Brittany and asked her. (She better know, she was pregnant with her 4th child at the time.) She laughed at us and said "If it's there, it's there!" We were excited. We took another home pregnancy test the next week and it was still positive. So we waited another week and did it again and it was the same! So off to the doctors we went.

Dr Jed is wonderful (he delivered me when I was born) and he confirmed the best news I've ever heard- a healthy baby is on the way! We are due on our second anniversary, July 19th 2009. I am just over 13 weeks along and I am so excited to be almost out of the first trimester. (It's been a very rough, very sick past few weeks.) We don't know what we are having yet, but Jed was very hopeful that we would be able to find out at our next appointment on the 26th.

Here are some cute pictures of our baby!
