An Overdue Update

As you can tell from my last post, I was under the assumption that I would have time to blog on the weekend when Jarom was home. Boy was I wrong! So, here is an update on the last 3 and a half weeks of our lives.

Ezra had his 2 week appointment on July 17th. His measurements were:
Length: 20 inches = 40%
Weight: 7 lbs 3 oz = 15%
Head circ: 36 1/4 cm = 30%
I am pretty sure he is around 10 lbs now. We go for his 2 month appointment on September 8th so I'll have updated stats then.

When I went to see Jed for my 4 week appointment I was back to my prepregnancy weight. I still have quite a bit of extra skin hanging around which I'm not a fan of, but I am finally able to start doing more intense exercise (meaning more than the few light activities approved after a C-Section). Hopefully sometime in the next few months that extra skin will no longer be around.
Jarom has been searching for a new job. While he really enjoys the job that he has, he really does not get paid near what he deserves.. not even close. Not only does he not make as much as he should, but our work insurance sucks and is actually just about to get even worse. We talked it over, prayed about it, and decided that it was a good time to start looking elsewhere. I would really love to be able to stay home full time, or even to just work part-time, but unfortunately I carry our insurance and we have already met part of our deductible so it will be cheaper for me to stay full time until the end of the year. Hopefully I will be able to just work part time after that.

I'm still adjusting to being a new mom. Sometimes, I feel like I have accomplished nothing because at the end of many days there are still dishes in the sink, dirty laundry to be washed, clean laundry to be put away, and a child still needing all of my attention. How is it that I can spend an entire day sitting around accomplishing none of my household chores yet still be so tired?! But then I think over the things I did do during the day- I changed 10 diapers while Jarom was at work, I fed E every time he decided he was hungry (even when that meant I was feeding the ravenous little dude every hour and a half), I managed to find time to eat a sandwich, and if I was super lucky I had time to unload the dishwasher, fold a load of laundry, or run the vacuum across the living room floor. While perfectionist Amber finds that to be not nearly enough, new mom Amber is learning to accept that there isn't enough time in a day to do everything and it is okay if there is still laundry to be done when it is time to go to bed. At least some days I can accept that.

Jarom is the most wonderful husband and father! I already knew he was an amazing Dad long before E came into the picture, but it has been such a joy for me to get to watch him with his son. When Addie was a baby, Jarom saw her mostly while she was at her moms house. He was never a full time dad since she lived elsewhere. But now he gets to experience all the lovely things about having a newborn in the house. He is adjusting to the interrupted sleep, the crying, and the dirty diapers and he is loving getting to hold his son and to play and interact with him. Ezra loves his dad! There have been a few times where E and I weren't having the best days. Neither of us had enough sleep and both of us were sick. He was crying and I was stressing because I couldn't calm him down. Jarom walked through the door, took the baby, and E calmed right down. He just laid in his arms staring at his dad, trying to grab his face. It was adorable! They are so cute together and I love it!

Addie is growing up so fast! She is so much more social than she use to be and it is great. She comes over and has tons of stories to tell us. She can talk nonstop all weekend long. I can't believe how much she has grown in the last 2 years! She loves her little brother so much! It has been a little difficult to get her to play with her toys or do anything really unless Ezra is in the same room. She came over before Jarom was home from work a few weeks ago and I had to feed Ezra. She would not play with her toys and she refused to watch a movie. She just wanted to sit next to him while he ate. When I put him to sleep, it still didn't change. She just wanted to sit by him. I kind of think that she feels she needs to stay by him all the time- which is so adorable! But I can't imagine how she is not so bored. But- I guess being a big sister for the first time sure changes things.

Anyway- life at the Jenks household is going well! Sometimes I am a little too stressy and I am trying to learn to be more patient. I think working with some of the people that I have in the last 2 years really helped me to become less patient and more aggressive. (I processed claims and disputes for people who were at times rather ridiculous, and I worked with quite a few very stubborn people.) While I am so glad that I was a strong enough person to survive my previous job, I really need to get back to my nice self. (Hopefully without losing the confidence I gained in myself and my abilities.)

I won't promise to update at a certain time again, as I have now learned that my time doesn't revolve around me anymore. But I will be sure to update as soon as I have a chance. Here are some pictures from the last few weeks for your enjoyment!

  2. He is so adorable! We loved visiting with you. Sorry we are so boring and just chatted. The girls loved holding Ezra. They both wanted to hold him more but didn't want to disturb how comfy he was on your shoulder.

Believe me, the less OCD you become with cleaning, the better. It took 4 kids to knock it out of me. Still comes back occasionally, but life is much better when you roll with it.

Love you lots and lots, Auntie Michelle

  3. I was just as hard on myself after Bridget was born. For some reason I thought newborns just slept all the time and that I should have time to do all the things I did before. Boy was I wrong! Feeding, burping, changing, and rocking to sleep takes more time than you think. And I always felt lucky if I got a shower before Nate got home. It will get easier as he gets a little older, so hang in there.
